Beschreibung:In the nineteenth century India was largely ruled by Britain. Many British officers (civil and military) and their wives experienced India as a fascinating and challenging place. We are going to read:
– Vindication of the Hindoos from the Aspersions of the Reverend Claudius Buchanan, by a Bengal Officer (1808)
– James Tod, Annals and Antiquities of Rajasthan, Part 1 (1829)
– William Henry Sleeman, Rambles and Recollections of an Indian Official (1844)
– Mrs. Colin Mackenzie. Life in the Mission, the Camp and the Zenana (1853)
