Learning without a teacher: Self-organization

Some general comments:

• You are welcome to attend the seminar with (almost) arbitrary prerequisites. Some knowledge of machine learning, basic computer science, basic math is certainly a plus. Hopefully, the expertise available in the entire group will be enough to get some exciting discussions in a self-organizing fashion ;-)

• The language of the seminar will be English or German (or both) depending on the preferences of the audience and the respective speaker.

• Contact hours are two hours/week. Due to a collision with another seminar, the course will now take place on Friday, 12-14, AVZ-31/322. Here you can find the schedule.

• The aim of the seminar is to read and discuss (introductory) research articles within various topics related to self-organizing learning.

  Several points are of interest:
  Which technology is presented by the respective approach?
  Which practical learning tasks can be tackled in this way?
  Is the mechanism plausible? What is the relevance for biological or social systems?
  How does the approach relate to self-organizing learning in general? ...

  Besides, techniques of doing research can be trained: How can I get additional literature? How can I present the approach properly? ...

• For a 'benoteter' or 'unbenoteter Schein' it is expected that an oral presentation of one designated article is given which is accompanied by written material (e.g. ps or pdf of slides, html pages, ...).

• a motivation of the topic,

• the articles which will be tackled in the seminar,

• additional material,

• the schedule together with the respective presentations. Note: the first talk is an introductory overview where the topic of all further articles is shortly explained.
