Beschreibung
Analogies play a central role in human cognition, for example in reasoning and learning processes. They are often used to explain and understand new phenomena by already known facts from a familiar domain. Analogies are used in education and science as well as in everyday life. The AI group at the IKW has been studying analogies for past few years and developed a formal framework for handling analogies called HDTP (Heuristic-Driven Theory Projection).
The aim of the study project is to analyze different kinds of analogies and to further develop and advance the HDTP approach, both at a theoretical and practical level. The students have the chance to cooperate with a current research project on analogies funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG).
