Prerequisites: Introduction to Neurobiology & Cognitive Psychology

Neuroscientific investigations of consciousness aim to identify links between psychological states and neurobiological processes. Experimentally, it was thought that the induction of altered states of consciousness (ASC) allows quantifying differences between "normal" and "altered" states to establish such links. One way to overcome the problem of high inter- and inner-subject variability is a Big Data approach, to gain critical statistical power. This project aims to build a database that combines questionnaire and neurophysiologic data (i.e. EEG, rfMRI) to allow multifactorial meta-analyses. The database encompasses different methods to induce ASC such as meditation, drug induced states, sensory overflow or sensory deprivation. Data will be extracted from studies that applied questionnaires to assess qualitative aspects of ASCs. Further, the database will be linked to datasets of neurophysiologic data, such as resting state fMRI or EEG connectivity analyses.
