Beschreibung

The goal of the Semantic Web is the extension of the World Wide Web, such that access to the knowledge encoded in the Web becomes available on the basis of semantic means (really answer queries). It turns the Web from a collection of documents into a knowledge base. Ontologies are one of the basis of the Semantic Web, although they do not have a universally accepted definition. A Semantic Web terminology can be considered as a (usually light-weight) ontology.
Ontologies for the Semantic Web are usually specified by some document in a formal ontology language, which can be used by automatic reasoners. The Semantic Web is still a vision, but it has inspired and engaged many people to create innovative semantic technologies and applications.
